Tyra Banks made a dazzling return to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway after nearly two decades away. At 50, the supermodel closed the 2024 show on October 15, reminding the world of her enduring star power.
Banks wore a striking black bustier corset with crystal embellishments, complemented by a shimmering cape and strappy black heels. Her look captivated the audience as she strutted down the runway, blowing kisses to fans who erupted in cheers. “In case you forgot,” Banks cheekily captioned a video of her runway moment on Instagram.
Tyra Banks Return After Retirement
This comeback marks Banks’ first time walking the Victoria’s Secret runway since 2005. Reflecting on her decision to retire nearly 20 years ago, Banks said, “When I decided to retire, Victoria’s Secret had another contract on the table. But I felt like I needed to be taken seriously as a talk show host and businesswoman.” She added that at the time, she believed continuing to model could have undermined her ambitions outside of fashion.
Now, after building a successful career as a TV host, entrepreneur, and professor, Banks says the world has changed. “The world has evolved in such a way that I can be a businesswoman… and, yes, be a Victoria’s Secret model,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.
Banks’ return was also part of a larger moment for Victoria’s Secret. The brand’s 2024 fashion show marked its first since 2018, after a six-year hiatus following criticism of its lack of diversity and body positivity. In a statement, the company said it was listening to customers and was ready to deliver “the glamour, runway, fashion, fun, wings, entertainment — all through a powerful, modern lens.”
As for what’s next, Banks left the door open for more runway appearances. “I will assess all of this and figure out what I want to do,” she said. Fans, meanwhile, hope this iconic return won’t be her last.
