Mike Tyson is stepping back into the Netflix spotlight, but this time, he will not be wearing boxing gloves.

The former heavyweight champion has two projects headed to the streaming service this fall. Both will explore Tyson’s life from very different perspectives.

First up is “TYSON,” a four-part documentary series premiering Oct. 13. The project takes a deeper look at Tyson’s complicated journey inside and outside the ring.

Netflix will follow the documentary with “Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike” on Nov. 3. The one-man comedy special marks Tyson’s return to the stage after more than a decade away.

Tyson Looks Back At His Complicated Past

Directed by Floyd Russ, “TYSON” begins with the boxer’s difficult childhood in Brooklyn, New York.

It then follows his rapid rise through professional boxing.

Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history at 20 years old in 1986. He later reigned as undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987 until 1990.

However, the documentary is not limited to his accomplishments.

It also examines the controversies and personal struggles that followed his success. Tyson has publicly battled substance abuse and financial problems throughout different periods of his life.

He also served prison time following a 1992 rape conviction.

In the newly released trailer, Tyson openly reflects on the destructive behavior that followed him during his younger years.

“This is the dark side of me. That’s just who I became. Addicted to chaos,” Tyson says.

His family also participates in the documentary, offering another perspective on the man behind his public persona.

Tyson’s son, Miguel, discusses how his father’s past continues to shape him.

“I think he’s just so broken from his past, but inside, there’s a broken guy just trying to be a good father,” Miguel says.

The series was initially announced by Netflix in December 2024. At the time, it was planned as three hourlong episodes.

The finished project has since expanded to four episodes.

Tyson Finds Humor In His Story

Less than one month later, audiences will see another side of Tyson.

“Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike” brings the former champion back to the stage for a one-man show.

The special was filmed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. It marks his first one-man stage show since “Undisputed Truth” in 2013.

His wife, Lakiha “Kiki” Tyson, directed the new special. The couple also serves as executive producers alongside Marc Lieberman.

This time, Tyson uses comedy to revisit some of the more difficult chapters of his life.

The show touches on addiction, mental health and his evolution since his days dominating professional boxing.
