Sean “Diddy” Combs may be leaving federal prison earlier than previously expected.

The music mogul’s projected release date has moved to Jan. 21, 2028, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons records. The change marks another adjustment to Combs’ sentence since he entered federal custody.

Combs, 56, is currently serving his sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. The low-security federal prison houses male inmates.

His release was initially projected for later in 2028. However, the date has repeatedly changed during his incarceration.

Combs was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison in October 2025. He received credit for time already served following his September 2024 arrest.

A jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July 2025. However, jurors acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.

Combs and his legal team have continued to challenge his conviction and sentence.

Combs’ release date has changed several times

The Jan. 21 date is the latest in a series of adjustments to Combs’ projected release.

His release had previously been listed for April 2028 before moving into February. In July, federal records listed a projected Jan. 24, 2028, release date.

The date later moved back to Feb. 20 following a reported altercation with another inmate. Combs reportedly spent time in solitary confinement after that incident.

By September, his release had moved forward again. Records listed Feb. 5 before the latest adjustment to Jan. 21.

The Bureau of Prisons has not publicly explained the specific reason behind each change.

Federal release dates can change based on several factors. Those can include sentence calculations, earned credits, institutional behavior and participation in qualifying programs.

The Bureau of Prisons describes future dates displayed in its inmate locator as “projected release” dates based on agency calculations.

That means Combs’ Jan. 21 release is not necessarily final.

New prison allegations emerge

The latest change comes as Combs faces renewed attention over his reported life inside Fort Dix.

NBC News reported allegations that Combs received special treatment from other inmates. Reports also alleged he had access to prohibited items while incarcerated.

Combs has reportedly been returned to the prison’s Special Housing Unit amid the allegations. The unit is commonly referred to as solitary confinement.

The Bureau of Prisons has declined to publicly discuss Combs’ specific housing conditions or potential disciplinary proceedings.

Combs’ representatives have also pushed back against reports surrounding his treatment inside the facility. His team has questioned how recordings and information about him continue leaving the federal prison.

Any confirmed disciplinary action could potentially affect earned credits and his eventual release timeline.

For now, however, federal records place Combs’ release in January 2028.

If that date holds, Combs could leave federal custody several months earlier than originally projected. His release timeline could still change again before then.
