Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, a member of the R&B group TLC, is pushing back against claims about her political views.
The singer addressed controversy after public records showed donations tied to President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. The revelations sparked criticism online and questions about her affiliations.
In a statement shared on social media, Chilli denied supporting Trump or his policies.
“I WANT TO BE CLEAR: I am not MAGA and do not support any of the many policies that are causing great harm to the American people,” she wrote.
Donations Spark Backlash
Federal records indicated that a person matching Chilli’s name contributed hundreds of dollars to fundraising platforms linked to Trump.
Those platforms included Republican fundraising groups and committees associated with the former president’s campaign.
Chilli said the donations were made in error. She explained that she misunderstood where the money was going.
“I made a mistake too many make: I did not read the fine print,” she wrote.
She added that she believed the contributions supported causes she values, including efforts against human trafficking and programs for veterans.
“Two things I care deeply about as my dad is a veteran and everyone knows I love children,” she said.
Her representatives later said some donations may have been set up as recurring payments.
Social Media Controversy
The donations were not the only issue drawing attention.
Fans also criticized Chilli after a conspiracy video about Michelle Obama appeared on her social media page.
The singer said the repost was accidental and blamed unfamiliarity with technology.
“I had no clue that this repost had happened,” she said in a video message.
She emphasized her respect for the former first lady.
“I have the utmost respect and admiration for Michelle Obama, and I would never say or do anything that is disrespectful,” she said.
Chilli also noted her past support for Barack Obama and his campaigns.
Public Reaction and Response
The situation quickly gained traction online, with critics questioning her political stance.
Some fans defended the singer, saying accidental reposts and donation misunderstandings can happen.
Chilli asked for patience as she addressed the controversy.
“I have learned a valuable lesson and ask for grace as I navigate this,” she wrote.
Her representatives said her actions do not reflect her values, pointing to her long record of advocacy and charitable work.
The controversy comes as TLC continues public appearances and prepares for upcoming projects, placing renewed attention on the group and its members.
“I am not MAGA,” she wrote.
