American R&B artist Chris Brown entered formal not‑guilty pleas today at Southwark Crown Court. He faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon—a bottle—stemming from an alleged nightclub incident in February 2023 involving music producer Abraham Diaw.

Alleged Incident at Tape Nightclub

Prosecutors allege that Brown attacked Diaw with a tequila bottle during an unprovoked incident at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair on February 19, 2023. Surveillance video reportedly captured the singer striking Diaw multiple times before further assault.

On Friday, courtroom proceedings confirmed Brown’s plea of not guilty. He also denied a prior, more serious charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

Courtroom Appearance and Co‑Defendant Plea

Brown, 36, appeared in court wearing a light brown suit. He spoke only to confirm his identity and enter his pleas. Approximately 20 supporters sat in the gallery, some chanting, “We love you, Chris” as he left the dock.

His co‑defendant, U.S. rapper and producer Omololu Akinlolu (known as HoodyBaby), also pleaded not guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Brown was granted bail in May after posting a £5 million security, allowing him to continue his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour. He resumed performances internationally, including recent UK shows in Manchester and Cardiff, despite the pending charges.

Trial Scheduled for October 2026

The full trial is set to begin on October 26, 2026, and is expected to last between five and seven days. The additional charges Brown pleaded not guilty to today—assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon—were formally added to his indictment earlier this month.

During today’s brief hearing, Brown’s legal team offered no immediate statement. It is anticipated that his defense may argue that his actions were in self-defence, though no formal comments were made today .

Brown faces the prospect of a protracted legal battle in the UK. With a high-profile public persona and active touring schedule, the case continues to draw attention from both media and fans.
