Kenan Thompson loves the kids.
The legendary comedian, 47, will narrate the audiobook of his forthcoming picture book Unfunny Bunny,
Co-authored by Thompson and Bryan Tucker, the book was illustrated by Tony Neal.
“Unfunny Bunny follows Bunny’s first day of school, where he wants to be the funniest kid in class and make everyone else laugh,” the book’s synopsis reads. “But when Bunny gets there, his jokes fall flat.”
Speaking with PEOPLE, Thompson spoke about bringing the book to life.
“It was an absolute blast to bring this character and this story to life with my own voice,” Kenan says in a statement. “Having spent so much time with the world of Unfunny Bunny, getting to narrate the audiobook was an amazing experience — I had so much fun with it and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
Thompson is officially the longest-tenured cast member in the history of Saturday Night Live (SNL). He joined the cast in 2003 and, as of the current time frame in 2025, has spent 22 seasons on the show. This record-breaking run significantly surpasses the previous record holder, Darrell Hammond, who was on the show for 14 seasons. Thompson was also the first regular cast member on the show who was born after SNL‘s premiere in 1975.
“Being there a long time, you watch people come and go,” Thompson said on a recent episode of the Thanks Dad With Ego Nwodim podcast hosted by his SNL co-star. “So you have to, like, deal with the parting of friendships, that kind of thing. The mourning of the loss of certain people’s presence and all that. So there’s a lot of bittersweet to it.”
“We’ve had crew members die. All kinds of s—,” said Thompson. “So, like, it’s a heavier thing than just like ‘s— is sweet for me. Because I’ve been there a long time’ kind of thing.”
