Zendaya says the end is near for one of television’s most celebrated dramas.
The actress, who has starred as Rue Bennett on HBO’s Euphoria since its 2019 debut, appeared Monday on The Drew Barrymore Show. There, she strongly hinted that the upcoming third season will be the show’s last.
When host Drew Barrymore asked point-blank if Season 3 would close out the series, Zendaya responded, “I think so, yeah.”
Barrymore pressed further. She asked whether the season should “be enjoyed knowing it will end.” Zendaya repeated herself, saying, “Yes, I think so.”
Zendaya then added, “That closure is coming.”
HBO has not officially confirmed Season 3 is the finale. The network declined to comment on the matter.
A Show That Shaped a Generation
Euphoria first aired in June 2019. It quickly became a cultural touchstone, particularly among younger viewers. The series tackled addiction, identity, trauma, and mental health with unflinching honesty.
Zendaya earned two Primetime Emmy Awards for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her work on the show. She became the youngest double winner in that category’s history and the first Black woman to win it twice.
The series also launched a wave of Hollywood careers. Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Hunter Schafer are among those who rose to prominence through the show.
Zendaya reflected on what the series has meant to her personally.
“Euphoria cracked my heart open,” she said. “Rue taught me so much about life … that crew has also seen me grow up. I owe so much to that show. Rue taught me so much about empathy and about redemption. She taught me a lot, and I’m very grateful for all of it.”
Season 3 Brings a New Chapter and Goodbyes
Season 3 premieres Sunday, April 12, on HBO and Max. Episodes will air weekly at 9 p.m. ET through the finale on May 31, 2026. The eight-episode run marks the show’s return after a four-year absence.
The season opens with characters five years older, now navigating early adulthood. Rue finds herself in Mexico, on the run from drug lords. Cassie and Nate are engaged and living in the suburbs.
The official logline reads: “A group of childhood friends wrestle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption and the problem of evil.”
Production on Season 3 was long and difficult. Filming began in February 2025 and wrapped in November 2025. The delay was driven partly by the cast becoming major Hollywood names. Balancing their packed schedules proved increasingly difficult.
The season also carries an emotional weight off screen. Actor Eric Dane, who played Cal Jacobs since Season 1, died Feb. 19, 2026, at 53, following a battle with ALS. He announced his diagnosis in April 2025 — the same week he returned to set. He completed every scene before production wrapped, making Season 3 his final screen appearance.
The season also marks the first television series to screen a premiere episode at Coachella. HBO will host a special fan screening on April 12 following the final performance of the night.
Creator Sam Levinson remains optimistic about what audiences will see. He told Variety in December 2025, “I feel strongly this is our best season yet.”
For Zendaya, the finish line feels earned. She has carried Euphoria from its raw, polarizing debut to what now appears to be a carefully designed conclusion. Whether HBO makes it official or not, her words on Monday left little room for interpretation.
Closure, she said, is coming.
Euphoria Season 3 premieres Sunday, April 12, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max.
